Blurb

This is where the dragons went.

They lie...not dead, not asleep, but...dormant. And although the space they occupy isn't like normal space, nevertheless they are packed in tightly. They could put you in mind of a can of sardines, if you thought sardines were huge and scaly. And presumably, somewhere, there's a key...

Guards! Guards! is the eighth Discworld novel – and after this, dragons will never be the same again!

Adaptations

  • There have been three audiobooks: the first an abridged version from Corgi narrated by Tony Robinson; an unabridged version from Isis Audio Books read by Nigel Planer (now available only secondhand on physical media); and in 2023, a Penguin audiobook, released along with the rest of the City Watch books, all narrated by Jon Culshaw with Peter Serafinowicz as Death and Bill Nighy reading the footnotes.
  • A radio adaptation was made by the BBC, with a script in six parts by Michael Butt and directed by John Taylor. It was first broadcast on BBC Radio 5 in 1992, narrated by Martin Jarvis. Death was billed as being played by “himself”.
  • A comic book adaptation, Guards! Guards! A Discworld Graphic Novel, was published in 2000. It was based on the stageplay adaptation by Stephen Briggs, and illustrated by Graham Higgins.
  • The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company performed a live audio adaptation at the Dragon*Con sci-fi convention in 2001. It was adapted by David Benedict and directed by Thomas E. Fuller. Notably John Rhys-Davies played the part of Lupine Wonse!
