The Glorious 25th of May
The Glorious 25th of May is the day commemorated in Ankh-Morpork by survivors of the People's Revolution of the Glorious Twenty-Fifth of May, as depicted in Night Watch. Rob Wilkins revealed on Twitter that he chose the date when Terry asked him to find something that wouldn’t offend anyone, and he chose Paul Weller’s birthday.[1]
On Roundworld, the 25th of May has become a day of celebration of Terry Pratchett and of supporting Alzheimer's research, marked by wearing lilac, as the characters in the book do. (It is also Towel Day, a co-option of “Geek Pride Day” a couple of weeks after Douglas Adams’ death (Adams famously hated and missed deadlines), and celebrating both is not uncommon.) As a result many Discworld podcasts have produced special episodes on May 25th, which are listed here.
