Rincewind is a character in the Discworld books - a failed "wizzard" from Unseen University, who is unable to actually perform magic but does have a talent for languages, a strong sense of self-preservation and the favour of a powerful god. He is the first protagonist of the Discworld novels, and appears in many of the early books, which form a sub-series. His later appearances cross over with those of the Wizards.

Books

The Rincewind series of books comprises seven novels and three of the Science of Discworld books:

Rincewind also appears in Mort, Unseen Academicals and (most notably) The Science of Discworld IV: Judgement Day, and is briefly mentioned in Raising Steam. He does not drive enough of the plot for these to be considered part of his sub-series, though.

Adaptations

Rincewind was also the protagonist of the Discworld videogames Discworld and Discworld II: Missing Presumed...!?, where he was voiced by Eric Idle (with some additional lines in the first game provided by Rob Brydon). He is played by David Jason in Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic.
