The Discworld Roleplaying Game
The Discworld Roleplaying Game (aka GURPS Discworld) is a tabletop roleplaying game based on the Discworld novels, published by Steve Jackson Games using their Generic Universal Role Playing System (GURPS) rules. It was originally released as GURPS Discworld in early 1998, and re-released in 2002 and 2016 in an updated edition under the current title. Despite Modiphius having a new license for Discworld tabletop games, including a new RPG, the GURPS game is still in print, though not as a traditional hardcover.
Books
The Discworld Roleplaying Game was originally released as a standalone game in a single book, accomplished by including the simplified GURPS Lite rules in the back, based on GURPS’ third edition. It was still compatible with the full GURPS rules, and so could be used with various other sourcebooks. It was followed in 2001 by the GURPS Discworld Also book, which updated the game with elements from books published after the original (including rules for the Clacks). The first book was republished in 2002, renamed “The Discworld Role-Playing Game” to make it more easily findable on shelves. Aside from distributing the rules throughout the book to make it easier to use, it was largely the same as the original.
The game was also supported online, with short free supplements providing extra details as part of Pyramid, the Steve Jackson Games magazine.
The final version of the game was a new edition, updated to GURPS fourth edition and incorporating the material from both previous books (and more new stuff, possibly including the Pyramid articles) into a single hardcover book. It was reportedly finished in 2014, though delayed and not published until 2016. A digital version was released in 2017, and is still available as a PDF or print-on-demand softcover. (The 2016 hardcover is reasonably available secondhand.)
