Esme “Granny” Weatherwax is the first and foremost witch character in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels. As mentioned in the blurb for Wyrd Sisters, witches don’t have leaders, but Granny is the “most highly-regarded of the leaders they don’t have”.[1] She is an “edge witch”, a guardian of the edges - between life and death, the Discworld and other worlds, and all sorts of other things. Her steading - the area she cares for - is in Bad Ass in the Ramtops, in the kingdom of Lancre. She is lifelong friends with Gytha “Nanny” Ogg (though you wouldn’t always know it), and sometimes forms a coven with her and a third which, primarily Magrat Garlick or Agnes Nitt. She later becomes mentor to Tiffany Aching, who she eventually names her successor.
